Supporting the Human Biology Program

The HMB is committed to nurturing excellence in undergraduate interdisciplinary biology by creating a learning environment that enables students to develop skills in critical analysis and research, community engagement, and effective communication. These skills will help to prepare our students for careers in which an interdisciplinary education is an asset, such as academic research and teaching, health care professions, and public policy especially in areas of health, research, education and the environment.

To meet this challenge, our faculty are developing innovative in-class and on-line pedagogical methods and tools to enhance student learning. In addition, we facilitate student placements in some of the top biomedical research labs in Toronto, as well as international placements in Africa, Central America and the Caribbean with a focus on global health, to promote experiential learning.

University of Toronto alumni are essential partners in our goal to provide access to the highest quality learning opportunities for all of our qualified undergraduate students. Donations to the Director’s Excellence Fund will help us maintain a number of student awards that celebrate academic excellence and recognize outstanding achievement in research and community engagement.

Donations in any amount can be directed toward general support for student awards or may be specifically targeted for one of our award categories:

  • Human Biology Entrance Scholarship
  • Academic Excellence in Human Biology
  • Human Biology Undergraduate Research Award
  • Human Biology Award for Community Engagement

Alums are also invited to participate in Backpack to Briefcase (b2B) events that allow undergraduate students to interact with alums from their programs and learn how their studies may be applied to professional careers.
